Sunset. Poem by Tom Allport

Sunset.

Twenty twenty four the ringing has gone
Surely Birkenhead Council
Has got it wrong
They have stopped
The quarter hour chimes
From the Town Hall clock
So after one hundred and thirty seven years
Of joyful sound
Now only silence
In between the hourly peal
What a sad sunset
That's how I feel.
