Superficial Security Poem by Kaitlin Schmidt

Superficial Security

The security in the arms of
Another is only temporary.
Satisfying superficial needs,
But never truly being satisfied.
The sweet nothings being spoken mean
Everything, but nothing.
Wrapped up in the moment as if time will never pass,
But when time passes, it meant little.
The craving need to be loved by another
Never goes away.
Even with arms around you,
They do nothing but place a superficial happiness upon you.
The thought of being alone dwells
In your mind and lingers there, never escaping.
No matter how hard you try, contentment is unattainable.
Your reach is too short to grasp
The love you long for so much.
And the comfort you yearn for only eats you alive.
Acquiring satisfaction may only be possible if you
Venture into the unknown.
But the thought of going into the unknown is unthinkable.
