Superfluous Poem by Nellie Isabelle Steward Cooper

Superfluous

Eons ago, back in the day, in a time far away, when us old people were young

Before world gentrification had begun, we all would say.. we'll go down to the block and have us some fun...

A curious gathering of mottled peeps would meet on South Market Street

At Triangle Park, across from the liddle Cab Stand, transportation still being much in demand

In the city of Asheville, NC not a small place at all
oh, no u are very misinformed..! !

This not as in incy... quite a small place... lest there be any confusion regarding the matter

Up to the YMI....Why Am I? ? ? is self realization risky and always so necessary..?

We were a nice and cozy lot even though temps would dip down a bit, well below freezing

With a brisk wind chill it being quite airish, nippy or chilly... tis time to bundle up so as not to catch cold

Buy a double deuce or two to warm us up, then we sit down looking all around... our place.. ours forever

Get a snack at New Ritz Café if need be...gatherings do get hungry from time to time

We had it all y'all... way-back-when... through all kinds of weather we were together..

Bele Chere, M.L.K Park, .. Goombay... no need to pay your way.. just enjoy the day

And don't forget Club Decardo on the corner...if you wanted a sip of brew with someone you knew

There was the Cougar Kitty always fronting the large lawn
forever and forever... leaving his location never, never, never

Reflecting back, there was Sue Purple who would always be with us back then... so stylish and so chic

Smiling lips of purple, sharp and purple fingernails, pretty painted toenails... and purple all the rest

Sue Purple was really quite a sight, especially at nite, ...have fun with all your mite
