Superman! Poem by Denis Martindale

Behold the might of Superman!
His powers prove supreme!
Such powers, Luthor hoped to ban
Yet Lex lived in a dream.
He had the business acumen,
But riches fueled his hate,
And so he schemed of where and when
To fix the hero's fate!

Yet there was love for Superman
That drove Lex Luthor mad,
He set in motion such a plan,
Investing all he had.
Resources used that few could guess,
Astounding those who knew,
But even less would they confess
The things that Lex could do!

While other heroes saved the day,
Clark Kent had time to heal,
The dog called Krypto chose to play
With joy that looked so real.
To the Fortress, he dragged his friend,
Where robots took control.
All the power the Sun could send
Preserved the hero's role!

The heroes of the Justice League
Would play their part as well,
Their superpowers were unique,
What stories they could tell.
While Supergirl was nowhere near,
Still battling with her grief,
Lex Luthor thought the coast was clear,
But victory was brief!

Despite the use of Kryptonite,
His schemes got out of hand,
When allies chose to stand and fight
To crush what Luthor planned!
He hated Superman much more
Than he thought possible,
Hate proved to be his fatal flaw,
That's undeniable.

Thus, Superman had overcome,
As if one of the gods,
He faced the scoundrels and the scum,
Regardless of the odds!
Don't ever underestimate
What Superman can do!
He wins through love and not through hate!
That's Superman for you!
