Superman, But Worse Poem by Corey Young

Superman, But Worse

It is I!
The guy who can fly with no sci-fi
And I,
Am the superhero this town needs.
And please, call me
Superman.
I'm not the DC comics Superman, trust me,
I'm much, much better!
You want to be a hero, huh?
I understand you're willing
And I know that you've worked
But this world of crime fighting is berserk.
You never know what will occur
As a blur passes by and I'm sure,
You will be left there, defeated and confused
Not knowing what to do
And whew!
I zoom in.
You will inevitable be saved
By the well behaved, good mannered
Superman!
This is not intentional, please
I am not crushing the dreams
Of you daydreaming teens
Who truly believe that they
Will save the day.
I'm sorry, but that's my job.
While this may be bad news
You are simply not made out to be a hero.
You have zero superpowers
And as the hours go by
The villains rise so high
And they tower above you.
You.
You, who is not fit for this
And cannot stop the crisis
That occurs every day.
You, who is just not enough
To be a hero
Like me.
I don't mean to be mean
But your overzealous dream
Will never be met.
The only thing I can think to say
Is "give up."
