Swamping Tide Poem by Dave Dunn

Swamping Tide

Swamping Tide

When rent in sorrows I try to find
Another plain on which to set my mind
To distract it from the downward vibe
And thereby avoid the swamping tide

The swamping tide has no remorse
It will hold you if you cross it's course
The suction of it's slimy waves
Has taken many a mind to grave

Grave and dark in their dual pact
Overpowering those that lacked
The energy to pull out of such mire
Their very souls tortured by fire

Fire and brimstone smoking out
Any who's minds are struck by doubt
Keep such at bay by a forward plan
The saving grace for many a man

For many a man will take some time
To watch for dangers down the line
Place a safety net close to hand
And by such means all panic's banned

All panics banned, the moments pass
Relax and take the pre-planned path
A clear head can most risks avert
As the wartime posters asked 'Be alert'
