Sword Swallowing Poem by Liz Annson

Sword Swallowing

All you can do is take a little practice.
Practice, try again.
Slide the smooth edge down you gullet,
Don't move, can't fall or it'll hurt,
Now, try again.
Take your words back,
Glinting and crescent edged in the dark
Pluck them from the air like a diamond coin
Twist them back into physicality,
Showing the keen edge,
Then swallow them back to your heart.
Take care, chew slowly.
Some words cut more than daggers.
