Symphonies Of War Poem by Lesley W de Bruin

Symphonies Of War

It had become a mere melody to us
Boom! Crash! Burn!
The sounds of war were not even fit to compose a simple song
they were snares rhythmlessly struck by blood-soaked hands

The streets and plains have been scorched black
cleansed by the cold fire we call war
Still sizzling as if the flame could roar every moment
and unleash its raging melody among us

A melody of hate and anger
like a book which furiously yells its contents
unstoppable by anything or anyone
as destructive as every note is

But a war is more than just one single melody
There's life-long pieces of music written down with clean hands
The everlasting symphonies which are so suddenly brought to an end
by this simple but everlasting melody
