Table For Two Poem by Russel Nuñez

Table For Two

And as I sit
on your loving chair,
candles weren't lit,
yet those eyes glare.

Should I submit,
those bent lips dare
for every minute
be filled with care.

Atop the highest summit,
when you give me that stare;
takes me down six feet
when you feed me despair.

It's bittersweet,
this love that we share.
Though I must admit,
is beyond compare.

Girl, let us meet
off of this nightmare,
for dreams forfeit
with us unaware.

Let us land our feet,
hang this throne in the air.
Play our songs on repeat,
keep on track of this affair.

We will never split,
nor leave each other's snare,
for both our hearts beat—
tangled like Rapunzel's hair.

Love, we should exhibit
this photograph to a fair.
What we developed to film it
was extraordinaire.

Let us turn up the heat
on this table and declare,
that you and I are unfit
but the most likely pair.
