If Trees Could Talk
If trees could talk the stories they would tell
Of creatures neath the branches and the homes in which they dwell
The power of the struggles that they face
Survival of the hunt, and their protection from the preys
The scavenge and the silence to survive
The hunger in the fight to claim the strength to stay alive
The shelter in a mother's warm embrace
The longing for protection from the enemies they face
If trees could talk in the stories they would tell
The fragrance of the berries, and the moss on which they fell
The seedlings growing from the rooting vines
Creating food and shelter as the branches intertwine
The rain upon the leaves on which it falls
Sanctuary's hidden for all creatures great and small
Flourish life to nature as it grows
Nesting, and protecting as the sparrow find their homes
If trees could talk the stories they would tell
Of humans and their rifles, and the fate within a shell
brutality displayed by simple man
of innocence and beauty they will never understand
The sadness under tears of crying leaves
Of hearts that cannot understand the concept men believe
The innocence of life in every den
Cruelly is taken by the hand of human men
If trees could talk
