Take The Pledge Poem by Sandra Dodd

Take The Pledge

I pledge to me
if I never lose a pound
if my face falls to the ground
if I wrinkle like a prune
if I freckle like its forever June
if I turn bald with only one grey hair
if I attract horror stares
if I go to town without makeup
if I see myself with a microscope
if I look to me like I'm on dope

I pledge to bannish each dark thought
I will never again curse my image
I will not say out loud'What a hag'

For all the little girls that come
before and after, I will love me
As I am seen. If I never improve
If I look and die just always
like that woman leaning on a tree.
I pledge for all the little girls to love me
