Talk Poem by Guenevere O'Brien

Talk

Yes, I say, of course, dear. We'll do it your way
Me? Oh no. I have nothing to say

Would you listen
Anyway?
Or would I just
Talk talk talk
Too much
To a deaf ear affixed
To a silent face
And then you'd say
(as you always do)
That I've made things up
Invented fantasies couched
In worthless rhetoric
And maybe I've gone mad-insane
My logical conclusions
Making sense
Only to me

But, after all, who am I?

So I'll just
Talk talk talk
My silent pleas
And you'll
Dismiss me
Brush me aside and
Roll your eyes

Go ahead, then, if you must
One more time
Then another
Talk talk talk you're talking too much
Me? Oh no
I have nothing to say.
