Taro Poem by Toshie Nohara

Taro

Quite unusual you are, Taro
Unlike other dogs, you eat Japanese 'miso soup'
Visitors wonder how you can relish such salty
fermented bean soup
Your first owner must have introduced this menu to you
We need to change your diet for health sake
You spend all day watching the house
Your fierce bark scares every stranger away
Yet,
You HATE the THUNDER
So startled you hide in the garage!
Your four legs shaking with fright
Your two eyes staring for the rain to stop
Longing for the sun to shine
To have some fun of your own
You doze off so easily these days
Like a retired old man
Taro, you have less energy
To chase the cat next door
We love you all the more
As you have grown older
Taro, you have been faithful
You have been wonderful
As our pet
Thank you, Taro
You are our real hero.
