Tavora was beautiful
She didn't have a care in the world
She shone so bright
Always embraced that inner light
But as the days went by
She started to lose that shine
When Tavora turned six she saw everyone with new eyes
She began to realize
She wasn't beautiful
This girl broke herself
Toor down her whole world
She saw other girls thought they looked beautiful always wanted her body to look like theirs.
She was young didn't have a clue hated her hair all the way to her toes
As the years went by she never lost that hate
She turned ten
Had to have surgery
Hurray another reason to hate myself she thought
Tavora turned 13 thought it's time to change
Even though it was social media who taught her how she should be portrayed
Social media helped her destroy herself
She went on diets over exercised herself only to still not be happy
She was tired of measuring her worth by the size of her waist
But again she thought nothing could be erased
She stopped dieting thought a guy could solve all her problems
End of 8th grade lost a person who actually made her feel okay
Turned 14 scared her legs because her anxiety had nowhere to go
Lost her Dad now no one's there to help her glow
He meant the world now he's a body with a changed soul
Seeing her sisters pain knowing it's not fair
Thinking she didn't deserve this
Waiting for the snow
So she can cover up and hide what she's done
Seeing her life flash before her eyes
Sometimes even holding a knife
Wanting to die
Feeling so broken
Faking her confidence in life
So much to live for yet so much to die
But she won't give up so easily always trying to pick herself up
Feels like she's drowning in an ocean
Handcuffed to the floor
Only way to survive is going up for a breath
Thinking her only escape is death
Broken she thought
That's what I am
Even her name meant broken
Fighting a battle with the way society saw her
Forgetting how she used to see herself
Before she was taught what she should be
Missing her old self
That girl with unscared legs
That girl who shone beautiful inside and out
That girl everyone wanted to be but herself.
