Temporary Cure Poem by Christopher McKay

Temporary Cure

Load me into your chamber
I'm packed and ready for the fire.
I'll give you a hard enough hit-
To satisfy your lusting desire.
I'll breathe you into me
Taking each hit one by one.
Quench my thirst for escape
Make my head go numb.
I know you are parched
Thirsty for deep thought,
Set me on fire so that I may-
Give you all that I got.
Bring me to my escape
Your intoxicants are my key,
I can't help but surrender to your power-
oh so easily.
Breathe my victim,
breathe in slow and deep.
Now hold your breath as long as you can
As long as your lungs can keep.
Only seconds until I exhale
Just seconds until you take effect.
You may give me my key now
So all of this I can forget.
You drowned in sorrow before
Each regret had become a tear.
You know I take you away from your dread
Accounting all of your fears.
It has brought me thought,
Clear and profound.
You give me wings to fly
So high and far above the ground.
I am the escape
Away from the ordinary.
You will come down from this
As I am temporary.
