That Girl Poem by Christine Sears

That Girl

It's the story of a girl
So broken and so alone.
Her feelings are in a whirl
And her actions she can't condone.

Each morning she wakes up
And prepares to face the day.
'It's okay, heart' she whispers.
'It might be better today.'

Little does she know
The trials that are to come
Will break her down and eat her up,
Make her feel like scum.

But then again
That feeling isn't new.
It is to be expected,
A payment long overdue.

She cries out to God
To please give her some hope,
But when it doesn't come
She becomes a misanthrope.

She feels so hurt
Deep down inside.
But there are so many reasons,
On one she can't decide.

She's come to hate herself
Because of what she's done.
She's not proud of who she is
And her life has just begun!

She wishes she could quit,
Begs the world to let her go
It's just too much to handle;
She's put on a good show.

She knows she's all alone
But she calls out one last time:
'Can anyone even heart me? '
The silence makes her cry.

It's the story of a girl
So tired and done with life
That it's hard to persevere
And follow Him through strife.
