That's Why I Love Her. Poem by Alistair Plint

That's Why I Love Her.

Words blurt out of her:
a steam engine
fighting a track
covered in moss
enroute a dark tunnel

"Everytime I look in the mirror
there's a new grey hair"

I smile
knowing
it's untrue

just random

"My boss has his feet
on the desk
earphones in his ears"

just random

strangely
I care

then she punches
them at me

"Did you know Table Mountain
has over 1500 species of plants
that's more than the entire
United Kingdom"?

I nod knowingly
although
completely
unaware

just random

"Did you know that humans
chimps, and rats
are the only creatures
that laugh when tickled"?

Yes, completely random
and that's the beauty
of it

[well second;
second most beautiful
experience]

The first
being the love
she pours over
my undeserving
body

Just beautiful
random
love

some days
I do random too

I blurt out
"I love you"
before I realise
she's not even
in the
room

just random

that's why
I love
her
