The first half is now winding down
Those days are done & past
It spanned a gap of 40 years
Yet time went oh so fast
Much of my wasted youth was “spent”
On things that didn’t matter
On things that were of little value
On things that made me fatter
So now I’m faced with just 2 choices:
Look back in time and rue
Or boldly face what lies ahead
And start my life anew
As there’s no way to alter time
(and I wouldn’t if I might)
I choose to make some vital changes
And set my course on right
The 2nd half – it will be different
My vision's now quite clear
To live a life that’s much less selfish
And one less cavalier
Each moment that remains for me
Will not be thrown away
Procrastinating ‘til tomorrow
Or perhaps another day
I’ll spend less apprehensive moments
I’ll say “I love you” more
I’ll make more time for my close friends
And those that I adore
I’ll take more chances in my life
Not dwell when I am wrong
Eliminate my gloomy views
And fill my heart with song
For once 1’ve taken my last breathe
I want my eulogy
To speak of what I had become
Not what I used to be
So now the first half curtain’s drawn
That time I can’t reclaim
But the 2nd half has just begun –
And it’s a whole new game.

This is a very nice poem Sam. I like poems that rhyme and this one flows nicely. I hope you succeed with your second half, I think you've got the stamina for it! Sincerely Ernestine Northover.
