The Abyss Poem by Neil Godden

The Abyss

Rating: 5.0

And so I stood before Him and he gave me
The Look,
That told me it was never His fault.
'All the choices were yours - all the way through, ' he said,
Calmly, evenly and solemnly as I knew he would.
A pause.

He spoke again, 'Look at your heart and soul, and you will know which way to go. It has always been this way throughout your life.'

Like a mouse trapped by a savage cat, the outcome was inevitable.
I saw my fate and it`s final finality.
The joy and love constantly crushed by the transient selfishness of my imperfection
Led to one last, belated unselfish act.
There was no one left to inflict my own imperfect and unfair wants and needs upon.
This was me and me alone.

With a clear realization I turned my back on Him and stepped over the abyss.
