The Affair Poem by Alfred Ramos

The Affair

When I’m with you I can’t help myself
I want all the candy on the shelf

You wake up feelings that were buried deep
Now I’m having trouble getting sleep

You make me feel so young again
Take me to places I’ve never been

I know where I want my day to start
With you in my arms, you in my heart

How this happened I’ll never know
I just went where my heart said to go

What are we willing to put on the line
Hearts and souls will dearly intertwine

I know I’m twice as old as you
I made no attempt to misconstrue
Or blur any views of this taboo

I let you read my eyes
Sense my touch with no disguise
And see my soul, free from lies

I can’t bear to lose you now
I’ve suffered enough pain one lifetime will allow
But is it fair to you to have to make a vow

And yes your mother is my friend
We’ve known each other since who knows when

Chased each other through sunflower fields
Gained a trust that only a friendship yields

But she went her way and I went mine
Never thinking it would be me to cross the line

We’ve broken every rule that everyone else bends
How do we keep from just having odds and ends

When I want all of you and nothing more
The trembling in my heart I can’t ignore

Do we have the nerve to make it real?
No one will ever believe this deal
When with this ring, my love I seal

Never worry what others may say
It’s none of their business anyway
You, forever, my love will stay
