The Alley Cats Struggle Poem by brady skousen

The Alley Cats Struggle

the alley cat
met the junkyard dog
there was no metaphysical accord

seen by the rat
through the dense morning fog
he now searches for a reward

word got out
(we think it was the rat)
to some cardinals in a tree

may be a bout
the dog's already too fat
not what the redbirds wanted to see

(the sublime world of the redbirds
meets three troubled outcasts
a much too common sight
the cardinals could mock
like kings the animals storied pasts
but rather they took to flight)

the fog cleared
as morning faded
and the scene was set

the dog sensed fear
the cat hesitated
oddsmakers weren't taking bets

the cat hissed
decided to scatter
went up into the tree

the dog missed
but said it didn't matter
trotted to catch some zs
