The Alrtar Poem by Nassy Fesharaki

The Alrtar

The Altar

Last night, I
Faced altar…

Knelt, praised,
Read some psalms…

Did not go to Mehrab,
Yes, praised Satan, God,
Far from a church, mosque!

Scrolled the pictures,
Videos, and praised,
The Moon's, Sun's
Crescents…

Saw birds and flowers,
Little food on plate,
Wrinkled hands
Of elders…

In my head many hymns
Whispered them as if sing…

Laughed at the absentees,
The priests and mullahs!

In shelves are the books of
All the faiths, to last one,
Felt needless to read one,
Altar said: 'They are lies! '

Heard my silent friend,
Talked with me in secret:
'Remember George Floyd? '

Sure, I do, and know of
A young girl with altar
Having shed lot of light
On Blacks' way of life
Under the knee of White
Who is now behind bars!
