The Beast Poem by Sara Dickson

The Beast

Gaping jaws fill'd silver ashes,
Teeth of ivory yet toothless gnashes,
Protruding fangs far from his lashes,
Shards of rock like steel blades stained.

Sockets empty fill'd with fire,
Yet so black a ruthless liar,
As shapeless flames compose choir,
Noiseless tongues of shame.

Mut'lated body, twisted tree,
Deformed to demon, reduced to thee,
Purpose nothing 'cept to kill and flee,
For light does burning, blackened name.

Murdered dead a walk 'mong bones,
In dimension myst'rious unknown,
Knives, claws be savior to the clone,
Clone of life, said nameless fame.
