The Beautiful Octogenarian Poem by Francis Duggan

The Beautiful Octogenarian

In her early eighties but she does not look that old
And if the story of her life in book form will be told
The one who will write it for him or herself will do well
For such a biography many thousands of copies would sell
Her coming to Australia was only by chance
The beautiful octogenarian from Paris in France
She fell for a young Aussie soldier she met at a dance
A meeting that blossomed into a great romance
They came to live in Melbourne when his soldiering was done
And their union of marriage gave life to a son
He was quite a brave and a handsome young man
But at twenty he died in the war in Vietnam
Her husband long deceased but she is going strong
To a rare breed of heroines she surely does belong.
