lies in her ability to break down at times
and to be tender in her touch
and fierce in her ambition
it lies in the way she can see through the BS

the beauty of a woman
can be seen when she sings along to her favorite song
and when she hunkers down, face to face with a child
and when she puts on her socks

it's in her ability to dig a ditch
and mend a shirt
and do a cartwheel in a skirt
and not be threatened by the way the world sees her

it lies in the way she can see when you need a hug
and how she understands that love is the biggest thing of all
and when the prettiest girl in the room doesn't threaten her
and when her mind wanders...

it's how she raises her kids to be independent
and how she cleans her own gutters
and when her toes are painted 'hooker red'
and when she stands up for herself, despite having a bad-hair-day

the beauty of a woman
is not just something seen
it's ten thousand other things
but most of all, it's me
