The Beggars Way Poem by Herbert Dry

The Beggars Way

I saw a man dressed in rags upon his head a hat torn
Upon his feet shoes badly worn
Approaching our house he asked for something to eat
His eyes heavy from lack of sleep
He was given what we had and something to drink
With a nod of his head he gave us a wink
His face thin his eyes pale blue a small cord for a belt
Removing his hat giving thanks with words heart felt
Begging food from house to house
Existing each day hand to mouth
Dreams of tomorrow have taken wing
No longer can this beggar dream
Memories come often but never stay
Another page blank in the life of the beggars way
