The Beginning Poem by Felix Otiende

The Beginning

The Origin
Yes! Born of a bastard father,
Who never lived to watch me grow.
Yes! A tailor she was,
She nourished my heart with love.

Then the clan turned against her.
She had no choice but to go back to her father's house.
Yes! I was two years old when she rejected me.
I was too young and too innocent to understand.

Then death called and took her away
I was only four years old, when I saw the angel of death.
I vividly remember that she was buried like a dog.
Mum from that day, hatred was planted in my heart.

The battle was shifted to me.
Yes! They have been fighting me from the day you left.
Knowing well am the only obstacle preventing them from acquiring our ancestral land.
Mother when Auntie Jane died, what was said still rings in my head.

Mum they thought that without educating me, my star will not shine
Yes! You have kept my star away from me and covered it for so long
Now, the light is too strong to be hidden,
I know myself very well now.

Not letting me bury her was the worst mistake
Now am coming after you like a flood
Am going to show you the way
I won't harm you but I'll be the pain you'll live to see for generations
