The Best You Want Me To Be Poem by Samantha Torrez

The Best You Want Me To Be

Second best, sometimes third.
You bring me down to the bottom of my confidence with each word.
You kick me when I'm down, if I'm out.
The bruises in my heart, the deepest fear, doubt.
You look at me with dissapointment when I think I do right.
What is right to you? My tears every night?
I won't cry any longer, you shove ideas down my throat.
I'll shove them back.
You try to lead me down your road, I'll backtrack.
You dont support my choices, my pleas.
Well I'll rise above & bring you down to your knees
If only you could see
All I am, who I'm going to be.
Next time you compare me to perfect,
I'll point you to a mirror.
