The Birthday Party Poem by Mike Berriman

The Birthday Party

A few short lines from the birthday boy
Who said 'no books and no fancy toy'
A simple meal with our family will do
Cards drawn by the kids, with sentiments true.

A suprise lunch outside, and in the June cold
An eclectic mix of family comprised the lunch fold
Children on scooters and aunts with knee rugs
Kisses from red lips and three year old's hugs

A beaut birthday mix of love and good wishes
Hamburgers, risotto and chips with their fishes
Coffee for warmth and beers for the toast
I am seventy today and luckier than most.

Thank you my family, and as I age and grow frail
My birthday lunchon hides a wicked true tale
Boston (the dog) ate my big chocolate cake
When I catch him, a floor rug from him I will make.
