The Black Poem by Dereck Gibbs

The Black

Me tears become orphans
The dark slowly claiming my own
The dew slips slowly down my face
The wetness kisses my lips

Oh Father why?
You arrest my sight?
Doomed my vision
Making blindness…my faith

Majestic wonder called color..lost
Demons dance and taunt…me
Rubbing their hands in glee
Join us in the black

Pitchforks jab my eyes
Spasms of pain contorts my body
My hands clasped together
Bound by chains of regret

Staring mournfully at the heavens
Unable to cry anymore
Unable to shed that last tear
The black slowly claiming its prize

Father I promise I will be good
All I need is one more chance
Please save me from this darkness

The noose tightens around my neck
An overwhelming presence grips me
I ascend into the light
I am forever grateful for My Father
For Being My salvation
