Why? Poem by Dereck Gibbs

Why?

Why is this happening
Irrevocably linked to an enigma
My spiritual Siamese
Inexplicably connected
You cry crimson tears
Moisture kisses my face
An angelic laugh graces your mouth
I smile foolishly unaware of the catalyst
Frustration burdens you
I feel heavy
Shackles bind me as Atlas was to the heavens
I bear your hurts, pain and anguish
Looking to the celestial map for an angel to free me
An angel I thought was you
Cursed by this love I kneel in submission
Condemned to roll this boulder eternally
Compelled to push for you against gravity
Frantic to reach the summit
Punished for assuming us equal
A prince made into a slave
Yet still I love you
A love so strong it seems wrong
I despise the lies I tell to keep up this façade of self content
This demented game makes me relent to your superiority
A superior deceiver cheating your way to my destruction
Every false smile makes me die
Why? Because I love you
This weakness corrupts my emotional success
Impairing my judgement to give you an innocent verdict
I cut myself on you and now I am poisoned
Woe is me dying slowly...no remedy no cure
Debilitated yet still I endure
Anaemic yet still I bled for you
A slave trapped that is that
Yet still I love you
My diluted existence an insistence that it’s worth it
The falsities of my entity wounds me
My ascension to heaven obstructed
Gravity restrained me from my catapulted ascension
