The Blackness Of Death Poem by Alistair Tait

The Blackness Of Death

Was he a stranger?
Had we met before?
I could not be sure.
Prepare for danger.

A person unseen,
In the black of night,
No longer in sight.
Follow what I mean?

Did a shot ring out?
A sigh kissed my ear.
What had I to fear?
There wasn't a shout.

Someone's been around.
I'd had quite a whack,
Before I went black.
Have they gone to ground?

Hold on, not so fast.
The blackness of death,
Hangs upon my breath.
Will it be my last?
