The Break-Up Poem by Tatyana 'Churlish Cherub' Almeida

The Break-Up

It starts in the depths of my soul
With time, the feeling grows
And eventually begins to show
Something I can’t keep in check, hold in tow
The masquerade’s gone on too long
Taken one too may bows, sunk too low
Here’s my chance to let you know

Your gaze towards me loses its luster
Your touch grows cold
It’s time to move on to greener pastures
Charades can be fun, but even they get old
Better late than never, courage I’ve finally mustered
To say you no longer fit my life’s mold

Once amorous attachment’s
Turned to stoic detachment
Unlike a play, for us, there’s no encore
No re-enactment, no room for more
It pains me to shut the door
But a relationship shouldn’t feel like a chore
