The Broken Mirror Poem by Cory Fox

The Broken Mirror

Shivering on the icy floor
Hushed sobs in that dark place
Her hand shields her ashen face
From the cracked mirror on the door

A shattered face glares back at you
Eyes that never blink or dart
Sunken eyes that search your heart
Blocking the door you won't go through

Tell me you fear the searching eyes
Say if those eyes would turn away
That in the dark you wouldn't stay
Go on believing your lies

Your true motives I can trace
You fear that once in the light
Your past will be in plain sight
As will be the cracks in your face

Insult and injury soon will pass
Afraid to cry
But not to die
Who's really the one trapped behind glass?

How long will you bear these attacks?
Victim, martyr, shattered, deranged
Nothing in life will ever be changed
Until you peel your eyes from the cracks
