The Buses Are Just Modern Runways For Hipsters - Poem by Rachael Swiss

i can't get high anymore
and i fear i may have developed an immunity
to feeling good
maybe happy
the coke the hash the x the acid
the pot the love the dogs
are barking
and i'm annoyed by it
i used to feel so naughty
in midtown after midnight
with the working girls
on working nights
i bet my ass they were trannies
i'd have bet yours on it too
there are too many girls outside tonight
faux good girls
full skirt girls with cat-eye frames
and near perfect vision
hello and welcome to the contempt of my pen
it gouges out the lines on this paper
fills them in with black ink
like your trendy tattoo
my words are out of fashion
before they even hit the page.
