The Call Poem by Shay Mitchell

The Call

I laugh along with my friends,
Ignoring everything around me.
I start unwrapping my presents,
Excited to see what my friends got me.
I hear the phone ring,
But think nothing of it.
Me and my friends keep laughing,
And joking around.
I hear my mom cry out,
While my dad grabs the phone from her.
Time freezes around me,
My friends completely oblivious.
When my dad drops the phone,
I know something horrible has happened.
My parents come and tell me,
That everyone needs to leave, now.
All my friends grab their things,
And walk out the door.
April 2,2005.
The day my uncle died.
The day before my birthday.
The day where i felt alone.
The day where everything changed.

I LOVE YOU UNCLE DOUG!

my uncle doug died at the age of 54. i took it really hard, because he was my favorite uncle. i got my smart a** remarks from him. he was an amazing uncle. he died in an avalanche. and the worst part of it all. is he looked exactly like my dad. so in a way, i thought i had lost my father, even though he's still w/ us today. does that make sense? well thanx for reading this, u must have a lot of patience.
