The Calling Poem by Dove Allen

The Calling

Where were you when love came calling?
Did you hear it and not open the door?
Did you hem and haw, somehow stalling
And when it left, were there shadows on the floor?

What were you doing, when love came calling?
Did you do like so many times before?
Made up excuses, somewhat appalling
And when love was right, again you tried to ignore

Who were you when love came calling?
Did you have false pride and ego galore?
Did your soul have peace, never failing?
Or was your heart sinking down and could not soar?

How will you be when the Truth comes asking?
Simple and easy in times of human suffering more
In dying breath, your deeds from life unfolding
The light of Christ shines upon love’s promised shore
