The Cardinal In Spring Poem by Raymond Farrell

The Cardinal In Spring

I couldn't miss
The vivid red streak
Flashing
Across a bright May sky
Lighting among the white blossoms
Of the apple tree
I saw his throat swell
Tail spread
Wings droop
Opening his reddish conical beak
He sang
(Over and over)
Whoit Whoit Whoit
Cheer Cheer Cheer
In this the season of love.
