The Cemetary Visit Poem by melissa eckert

The Cemetary Visit

As anna clutches the rose, trying to choke back her tears,
she mournfully looked down at the headstone;
reading it for the thousandth time it says: 'Here lays Michael Duran, beloved husband and father;
May you always rest in peace'
Sadness and lonlieness began to emerge from her soul;
reaching for the gold locket on the chain around her neck,
the feelings of sadness began to slowly fade away.
the touch of it brought love and happiness back into her heart once again.
this, the only item she had left of him, that still kept her heart alive and beating.
kneeling down on the soft dirt made her feel like a young child once again.
closing her eyes, she remembers the life that she gave to such an amazing man, who was once her husband,
now dead.
as she said her thoughts and prayers,
the sun began to shine down through the cloudy sky;
anna opened her eyes and smiled.
