The Challenge Poem by Ravinder Kumar Soni

The Challenge

Do I not know
You are the sole reason for my being,
And for my laughter and flight.
Do you have to remind me time and again
what I have to do?
You will only infuriate me further,
You have already angered me enough.
In your insistence, I can read,
You do not want me to laugh or dream,
Have I no right to laugh or dream?
How can I live otherwise?
There would be no meaning in my life,
My pain will not go away,
Where would I find happiness?
Living is a painfully demanding affair,
Life takes more than it gives;
You made it so, perhaps out of spite,
Because I am trying to be another you;
Why can't I be you?
Who knows, I could be more creative.
I do not defy you
But you induce fear which I do not like,
That fear makes me rude.
Instead, why not guide me
And show me the right path,
That leads to you.
I have no other goal in sight.
