The Cheshire Cat Poem by Trini Ruiz

Dear Cheshire cat,
What are you laughing at?
Of human follies and human vices?
Or humanity stumbling as humanity rises?

I look at the sky;
I can see your face,
Just one of those things,
That time can't erase.
The moon for your smiles,
The stars as your eyes.
That wicked expression you'll never replace
You frolicked and danced,
You laughed and pranced.
Moking all the human race.

Both numbers and history mocked,
But, you know humanity ain't locked
In passions and fashions,
In anger and love.
Soar high humanity dove!
Soar high azure sky, cloudless blue.
All the things you wish to do,
All the things you wish you knew

Do you understand, Cheshire cat,
Do you really know what you are laughing at?
You are laughing of lives, of dreams,
You laugh of love; our human dove,
The symbol of life and of peace
Do you care to laugh at our bliss?

I hope you see, oh friend of mine,
Laughter is not always fine.
You can laugh of death,
You may laugh at pain,
You might as well know you are mocking in vain.

Now, do not deny it, I saw your wicked smile,
It could be seen from many a mile.
You laughed at love and idiocy too,
Well, so bad for you!

Our stumbling and raising,
And, yes! I am included!
Falling and raising
Cursing and blessing
But never a life can be rued.
