The Circus Poem by LONDIS CARPENTER

The Circus

I heard the circus was coming to town!
I heard the news from a wonderful clown.
He had a red nose and feet way too big,
A little green hat and a large yellow wig.
He sold some tickets for grandpa and me
Down in the front row where it's easy to see.

I heard the circus was coming to town!
I heard the news from a wonderful clown.
He talked about lions, tigers and bears;
Of camels, elephants, stallions and mares.
Cute little dogs who were riding on zebras.
Marvelous tricks done by girls on trapezes.

I heard the circus was coming to town!
I heard the news from a wonderful clown.
When I'm at the circus I'll see (oh I hope)
A man on a tight wire jumping a rope,
A clown in a cape being shot from a gun,
Seals with balloons on their noses; what fun.

I heard the circus was coming to town!
I heard the news from a wonderful clown.
With good things to eat it's bound to be dandy:
Popcorn and peanuts and pink cotton candy.
And marvelous sights I can't wait to see
A circus is surely the best place to be
