The Clearing Poem by Shanto Armonde

The Clearing

Craving solitude
I journeyed to distant lands,
Over lonely paths
Leaving all of life’s tortures
Behind, in the search for joy...

Cries of past torment
Faded away as I fled,
From memory, and
People passed by like spectres,
Leaving silence in their wake.

Seduced by the stars
Kissed by the cool evening breeze
Lured by the moonlight
To that wondrous tranquil end
With hopes heightened, I walked on...

That harbor sighted!
Eyes wide in surprise, I ran...
Standing in centre,
Scarcely saw or heard any man
But only the wailing winds.

Deserted by life
And ghosts alike, left alone
In the company
Of tranquility and calm.
On empty grounds, I found peace.
