The Clothes I Wear Poem by Randy McClave

The Clothes I Wear

When I go to church I don't wear a suit or tie
Maybe I'll wear one on the day that I die,
But, until then I will wear my jeans or sweats
I have plenty of those in my closet as my assets.
In church that I attend we dress the way that we feel
We are not boasting or showing off we are real,
Some of the men wear suits and some women wear dresses
To show off their joy and happiness and not their successes.
After church when I go home I don't change my clothes
They are meant to be worn for the whole day when they were chose,
I feel comfortable and at ease while wearing them
And I feel no tightness or scratches on my every limb.
When family comes to my house they dress the way that they want
What they wear they need not to ever daunt,
The clothes that they wear is not to show off or to impress
It's how we all enjoy to look and feel I so solemnly confess.
Know me not ever by the clothes that I wear
And know me not by how people at me will look or stare,
But, know me by my actions and also by my deeds
Know me not by my clothes and where your imagination leads.
Clothes are materials to protect you and to keep you warm
Sometimes they become your own art form,
When our time comes and at us the Lord will be staring
Remember this, he won't care for the clothes that we'll be wearing.
