The Cormorant Poem by Frank Ammerlaan

The Cormorant

Rating: 5.0

It was a most unexpected encounter
There she was, sitting besides the road
at the waters edge, completely fearless
enjoying the sunshine, her eyes partly closed

I walked right past her
she held her beak up high
she didn’t nodge
didn´t move an inch
didn’t even try to fly

All she wanted was that sunshine
I could take a closeby look
Her eyes were mostly closed
She saw me, didn’t bother about me
Not even about the pictures I took

There is something majestic about her
She was just doing her own little thing
She only wanted the sunshine to warm and dry her
Wouldn’t be disturbed by anyone, or anything

She reminded me of someone famous
An actress and singer, known as Taylor Swift
She also does her own little thing
Enjoying life and friendship, as a most precious gift

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
I took this picture while walking to the train station. I had never seen the bird before. It felt like i could touch her. Its incredible how close i could come. She could see me, her eyes were also partly open. She really didnt care at all, no fear whatsoever. Incredible. So what does a poet do? embrace the encounter and write the experience.: -)
