The Crossing Poem by Frederick Stadler

The Crossing

A bridge over frigid waters;
A bridge far from home.
A bridge which was sought there;
A bridge I am crossing alone.

It's time to move ahead;
Time not to look down.
Time to think of my own bed;
Time will get me to solid ground.

I left a shattered home;
Left people I love dear.
I left to cross this bridge alone;
To exit from my fear.

Someday we'll start anew, I swear;
Someday life will be grand.
Someday I'll make it home too
And knowing just where I stand.
