The Damage Is Still Done Poem by JoAnn McGrath

The Damage Is Still Done

I find my friends doing a slow slide
because of me
Insisting it is NOT me
But it is

I have brought both my best buddies
down with me
Instead of giving you a hand to reach for
I bombard you with sadness

Eventually it has to rub off
We are only human
We don't carry a tortoise shell armour
over our emotions and heart

They are sponges in a way
And the more you hear negative
the more you soak it in

I'm so sorry

Why is it...you really do hurt the ones you love

Even when it's not intentional

The damage is still done
