The Dark Passage Poem by Mohammad Younus

The Dark Passage

The dark passage,
from there to here,
then back again—
a cycle of shadows,
spinning beneath veils unseen.
Illusions crackle like spitfire,
tearing at the edges of thought.
The mind—a sea,
tumultuous and vast,
where even silence
eddies and churns.

In the deep,
shadows coil,
layered in the folds of night.
Illusions rise, ebbing, flowing,
whirlpools pulling—
the ship shudders,
splintering on unseen rocks.
Dark waters swell,
swallowing stars whole.

Night's breath,
a cold splash against skin—
still, I hold tight,
thrashing, gasping,
head just above the maw.
Navigating the quiet chaos,
paddle in hand,
the weight of time pressing
against the current's will.

A short timer—
wrestling the surge,
defying the undertow.
Yet the river,
life's force,
clenches tight,
dragging all beneath its sway.
Ahead, a thunderous roar—
the waterfall's call,
its plunge hidden
in the abyss below.

Who knows where it leads?
Who can say what lies beyond?
Perhaps the edge holds flight—
or perhaps only the dark,
waiting to cradle what falls.

But, despair not.
For in the depths of darkness,
Allah is the Guardian of the believers—
He guides them out of shadows,
leading them into light.
To those who trust,
He brings peace amidst the storm.
As for the disbelievers,
their guardians are false gods
who lead them from light into darkness.
It is they who will be
the residents of the Fire,
there forever.
