The Dark Sky (1990-1993) Poem by Lillian B. Rose

The Dark Sky (1990-1993)

the stars seem so near to us
as if you could reach out and pull them in
but just as your reaching out, they slip through your fingers
and disappear into the black of night

the cold night engulfs us
as we stare at the sky
the quiet spell of a glowing moon
throws light on the path behind

we look to the lake before us
light dances on its glassy surface
Peace travels between us
Shielding us from the wind

as we head back the way we came
the night pushes us on
the brightness of our smiles is met
by the life shining in our eyes

the shadows lead us back
A hug is our sign of parting
leaving each to remember
remember our night by the stars
