The Day Of Judgement Poem by Lewis Eron

The Day Of Judgement

Little Prayers for little Jews
Pleas in God’s small claims court
Petty sins and grand nothings
No real felonies for jolly good fellows
But bad diets both ritual and caloric
No doubt overdoing the schmaltz
Paying attention to the wrong details;
Watching people and not words
And worldly pleasures even in a mystic trance:
First class yoga retreats,
Fancy upholstered pews for the Holidays,
Machen a le’chayim with single malt scotch
After the morning minyan,
Too much work and always late for life
And now too willing to sign off on this year’s renewal form
Without reading the fine print
Already thinking of lunch and a nap.
